Dyna-mite by Jon Cleary

I love Jon Cleary's multifaceted talent (singing, piano, guitar) but his albums don't always work for me. Or rather, they are always hit and miss as far as I'm concerned. When Cleary is firmly steeped in the New Orleans tradition that adopted him (he's originally British) he shines, when he steers towards more generic soul / blues, it tends to be blander. Dyna-mite fits that description, although I think the ratio of awesome to meh is rather better than in previous albums. This one's a keeper, and the eponymous opener is worth the price of admission alone.
