Plays James Cotton by Nico Wayne Toussaint
Tribute albums are tricky to pull off: after all, if you love an artist enough to do a tribute album, you're kind of suggesting we might as well listen to the original. Nico Wayne Toussaint is undoubtedly at the top of his blues game here, both on harp and on vocals, and this is a very pleasant album. Still, it lacks (to my ears) a personal touch that would make it a bit more distinctive. Again, in the context of a tribute album I recognize how hard that is. So a pleasant listen, but maybe not an album I'll be listening to repeatedly for the years to come. I hope Nico will forgive me for saying so.
