The Bright Mississippi by Allen Toussaint

The Bright Mississippi by Allen Toussaint

I have owned this album for years, and after a cursory listen had dismissed it as "not what I paid for". I remember wanting to delve into the Allen Toussaint repertoire, but this was clearly an atypical album for Toussaint, mostly instrumental and mostly contemplative. On a whim I tried it again yesterday and find much to love there. The compositions and covers are subtly done, and the general mood instilled is one of relaxed wonder. I will undoubtedly listen to it some more.
