The Stone Sky by NK Jemisin

The Stone Sky by NK Jemisin

I really enjoyed the first two volumes of Jemisin's Broken Earth trilogy. This is fantasy, but not your usual fantasy fare by a long shot. I was looking forward to this third volume and it does not disappoint. This is a tale of societal oppression, a tale of how societies decide to not consider or treat some of their fellow humans as human. It's ambitious, intricate and not as easy reading as most fantasy, which is a great thing. I did wonder at times if the complex structure of the book was entirely justified to support the story, but ultimately I decided it didn't matter: this is a powerful piece of literature, let alone fantasy.
