We Love Ella by The Amazing Keystone Big Band

We Love Ella by The Amazing Keystone Big Band

I absolutely adore the Amazing Keystone's Pierre et le Loup, and their Django tribute album. This Ella tribute album is of the same standard of quality, but dissapointed me a little bit. Previous albums by the Amazing Keystone played with their material, modernized, rearranged. We Love Ella is more of a straight rendition, and as good as the arrangements, musicians, and Celia Kamini are, it feels too much like imitation to my ears. I understand how hard it might be to "modernize" Ella, but playing it straight 50s big band style is a bit too on the nose for me. Still a pleasant listen, but a mild disappointment nonetheless.
