DionneDionne by Charlie Hunter and Dionne Farris
I knew neither Dionne Farris nor R&B diva Dionne Warwick (whose songs are covered here) but that never stopped me buying a Charlie Hunter album before. Dionne Farris has a deep, velvety voice which is instantly appealing. Having Charlie alone with a vocalist also is something special: there's something more immediately organic about him playing without a rhythm section as the relation between his bass and chord/solo playing becomes more evident to the ear. In short, a very appealing album that I need to listen to again to really capture its depths.
