Mary Poppins Returns

Mary Poppins Returns

Took my daughter to see this one at the movies. I was a little put off at first by Emily Blunt's Poppins, a lot more posh than Julie Andrews' ever felt like to me, but she eased into the role gradually until she was Mary Poppins, no questions asked. The plot follows similar threads to those of the first movie, but with enough twists that it doesn't feel like a rehash. London is the true star of the show, in a way much more pronounced than in the original. The resolution is quite fantastic, and in this one we actually get a bad guy. Cast is great, songs are great (and I'm not a huge fan of musicals), a success all round. Madeleine and I emerged with big smiles on our faces and an irresistible urge to dance in the streets.
