This is really a movie I wish I'd seen at the cinema with my daughter but unsurprisingly it was not distributed in Hong Kong. Alain Chabat produced here the perfect Christmas movie in the eminently American definition of the genre. Despite being set in Paris and being overloaded with French cultural references, Santa & Cie. has the pacing and themes of an American xmas movie. The story in a nutshell: the elves fall ill and toy production is in jeopardy a few days before Christmas. Santa has to come to earth to get vitamin C to cure them except he understands nothing of how human society works. Ensue hijinks and misunderstandings. It's a really fun movie that will delight your inner child, lots of comedy moments, a few deep moments as well. It's in French but accessible to French speaking non French. You'll miss a few jokes and references, but you'll get the gist of it. Recommended if you have kids or if you haven't killed the child in you yet.
