Meute by Julien Moreau

Meute is an RPG where the participants play men in whom an ancestral wolf soul coexists. In other words, werewolves (as in men who can turn into wolves, not wolfmen). The first immediate question might be: "how do you do something different from the World of Darkness Werewolf games?" Meute distinguishes itself in a number of ways. First, the whole man / wolf dynamic is confrontational: normally the man is in charge, but various triggers as well as the willingness to access certain features of the wolf can push the wolf forward. This is unrelated to which physical shape the character is in. When the wolf is in charge, a different personality with potentially wildly different objectives takes over. Secondly, the game focuses on the wolfpack and the social dynamics thereof. This makes for interesting relations between players and interesting game dynamics as well. Finally, the game is quintessentially French. Not that it couldn't be transposed elsewhere, but as it stands, the focus in on French folklore in a way that I had not seen since Nephilim. Very promising, very refreshing. Probably one of the most distinctive and interesting games to have come out in the last few years. (Disclaimer : I know the author and I have tested the game with him as a GM.)
