Demi-Sang by Hubert and Gatignol
I was puzzled at first by this second volume to the Ogres-Dieux (God Ogres) series. The first (Petit) told the story of the fall of the last giant kings in a wonderfully built fantasy world. I expected the second one to follow the destiny of "Petit", the last surviving giant, artisan of his kin's downfall, but instead it focuses (in a giant flashback) on the destiny of the last king's Chamberlain, a bastard of half-noble ascent who schemes relentlessly to get to the highest position a human can aspire to in the land of giants only to see the giants crumble around him. Past my initial surprise, the story really grabbed me and the world building continues, bit by bit. Fantastic (and graphically amazing), probably one of the best fantasy graphic novels in recent years.
