Les Navigateurs by Serge Lehman & Stéphane De Caneva
Serge Lehman is famous amongst French comic fans as the scenario man behind the celebrated Brigade Chimérique series, the closest thing you will find to a French superhero comic. In Les Navigateurs, we are in a slightly more realistic vein. It was shoved into my hands by my friend Paiji who said to me "this guy must have played Les Mystères de Paris". And indeed, the book touches on many elements of Parisian history and mythology that I have used in the game as well. As such, it makes an excellent inspiration for the game, but besides that, it's a really good story and book. I'm not super keen on the artwork, but it's definitely the most solid and convincing book I've read by Lehman, Brigade Chimérique included. The story centers on a group of middle-aged childhood buddies, Max, Arthur et Sébastien. There used to be a fourth in the group, a girl called Neige but she left in their late teenage years. When Neige moves back to Paris, she is immediately the center of their attention, but she disappears in very strange circumstances a few days after reconnecting with them. On one of the walls of her house is a freshly painted fresco that represents a monstruous spider and Neige's figure is visible in the background... Max, Arthur and Sébastien investigate to try and understand what happened... #comics #graphicnovel #france #paris #urbanfantasy
