Louise Violet
We wanted to go to the movies on Sunday and needed to find a movie compatible with the emotional sensitivity of our 13yr old daughter. Louise Violet seemed to fit the bill, and indeed it did. It's the story of a female teacher moving into a remote village to start the school there when the French state in the 1890s made school mandatory for young children. But the local peasants are none too pleased, and so she has to fight to get the school started. It's a feelgood movie, not the best of the decade by far, but very pleasant. As my wife pointed out, it would have been good enough on a TV, but I had a lovely moment, especially with my daughter getting way more involved in the story than us cynical adults can.
