The Diplomat Season 2

The Diplomat Season 2

We thoroughly enjoyed the first season of The Diplomat, about the newly appointed US Ambassador to the UK, who is also being considered as a replacement VP. Amidst an international crisis centered on the UK, Kate Wyler, aided (and sometimes hindered) by her husband Hal) try to figure out what really happened when a British warship was targeted by a rocket in the Gulf. A good friend whose partner is a diplomat herself told me it was so unrealistic that they couldn't watch it, but knowing nothing about the actual workings of diplomacy, we never broke suspension of disbelief. Season 2 is of the same order, with really interesting twists, including (and especially) the final shift at the end of the last episode of S2. The showrunners have managed to weave thriller threads in this diplomatic environment in a way that is reminiscent of Le Carré or similar thrillers. Highly recommended (if you don't actually work in a diplomatic environment). And if you're patient (how long until S3 ?)
