En Fanfare

En Fanfare

The trailers suggested to me a feelgood movie, halfway between "Brassed off" (for the brass band) and "La vie est un long fleuve tranquille" for the variance in destiny of being raised in a different social environment. The movie is actually deeper than that. The pitch in a nutshell: a famous orchestra director finds out he has leukemia. He needs a marrow donation, but as his sister gets tested for compatibility he discovers... that she's not his biological sister, and that he has a brother somewhere. He was an adopted child. He rediscovers said brother, who is also musically inclined but has been raised in a run down community in the North of France. This movie pressed all the right buttons for me, showing a love of music in all its forms that really shines through. I absolutely adored it, and recommend it strongly.
