Indestructible by Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers

Indestructible by Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers

At which point do you stop buying Jazz Messengers records? It seems like there's an inexhaustible supply of them, and Indestructible could have just been one more. But it's not. This is the last album of the third incarnation of the Jazz Messengers, probably the most famous. And although Bobby Timmons is no longer there (replaced by a very inspired Cedar Walton) we still have the incendiary Lee Morgan on trumpet and the no less fiery Wayne Shorter on saxophone. In the mix, the drums are now way up front, and it gives the music an urgency that makes Indestructible stand apart.
