I had fond memories of this Alain Resnais movie and wanted to see it again, but it didn't show on any platform we are subscribed to, and the DVD seemed out of price. My wife managed to secure a copy on a second hand online store, and I got it for Christmas. I had a lot of fun watching this highly improbable and very theatrical comedy. The unique thing here is that while this isn't a musical, the characters break out into famous french songs, lip synching to the original tunes whenever relevant in the plot. Weirdly, I'm not that much into Chanson Française but I think it works. It's a minor movie, to be sure, but I'm glad to see my enjoyment of it hasn't lessened 30 years on. The cast is Resnais' usual bunch with Agnès Jaoui and the wonderful late Jean-Pierre Bacri on top. Wonderful in a very weird kind of way.
