Courtisans
My daughter got this for her birthday, and I have to say it's the best new game we've played since Splendor (in a very different genre). In Courtisans, you manage two areas, the "court" where noble families curry the favour of the queen, and your own domain, where these same families dwell. At the end of the game, families in your domain that are in favour at court generate victory points for you, and families that aren't lose you points. There are a few more subtleties with different flavours of nobles and the fact that you can insert nobles into other players' domains, but the concept is quite simple. And yet playing (and winning) is subtle and very competitive. Lots of fun, short games, what's not to like?
