Infest the Rat's Nest by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
The Australian mischief makers of rock do it again, this time releasing a metal album more convincing than most metal albums. To be clear, this is not a pastiche, even though there are many quite obvious nods to classic rock and early metal bands (Metallica, Deep Purple, Motörhead, etc.) At the same time, it stays absolutely and very recognisably a King Gizzard album. Quite an impressive feat. It's (obviously) not as proggy as Polygondwanaland, but in a similar way it hearkens back to earlier waves of rock. It sounds nothing like contemporary metal, let alone prog-metal. There's a very eco-conscious / environmental thematic here, and the opener There is no Planet B could be an anthem for the 2020s... Superb.
