Mécanique Céleste by Merwan

Mécanique Céleste by Merwan

Another graphic novel I borrowed from my friend Loris, even though the pitch didn't really appeal. A post apocalyptic story revolving around a sports league? Really? And yet, strangely enough, it works. In a fragmented world trying to survive from the remnants of civilisation, a group of small city states have decided to resolve their differences through matches of a ball game called la Mécanique Céleste (the Celestial Mechanism.) But of course, the more powerful city states don't exactly follow the rules. Surprisingly dynamic and engrossing in a slightly old fashioned way. I don't know if I'm keen for a follow-up, which is already out, but this volume stands very well on its own.
