Papillon by Sanseverino

Papillon by Sanseverino

I am a huge fan of Sanseverino's early Manouche inspired albums, a little less so since he's started revisiting Western Swing. Still, in each of his albums I find a few songs to like. Papillon is unusual in that it's a concept album inspired by the novel Papillon, telling the (not so autobiographical) story of Henri Charrière in a French Guyanese prison camp. Having not read the novel, I'm not much moved by either story or lyrics. Sadly, the music is also not very inventive. It's easy to listen to because it's familiar, but definitely not among his best stuff.
