This fifth novel in the Expanse series changes significantly from the previous four in that it focuses solely on the four central characters (Holden, Naomi, Amos and Alex.) On leave at Tycho station while their ship gets refurbished, they all go their separate ways: Amos heads back to Earth for the funeral of a friend, Alex goes to Mars in the hope of meeting his ex-wife and Naomi heads out to one of the Belter stations following a message about her mysterious past. Holden is left alone and feeling miserable on Tycho. This set-up (unusual for the series) allows for a deeper exploration of Naomi's, Amos' and Alex's characters. It's also a real change of pace and structure. A superb installment.
