The Two-Bear Mambo by Joe R. Lansdale
The third Hap & Leonard novel is in many ways much darker than the first two. Our two protagonists head out for a community known for its blatant racism to find a black ex-girlfriend of Hap's (from Mucho Mojo.) Inevitably, things get sour very fast and violence erupts amidst a massive flood. There's a 'Deliverance' feel to this one although the whites aren't degenerate (that would be too easy...) This third installment is where Lansdale's writing really begins to shine: these are short books, the writing is wonderfully tight and things move fast. Well worth it.
