Dungeon Crawl Classics

Dungeon Crawl Classics

Dungeon Crawl Classics is not the kind of RPG that I thought would be for me. Having played one game at the local RPG club, I decided to read it nonetheless and have to confess I quite enjoyed it. DCC embraces old school not just in esthetics but in feel as well. It takes a different path from many OSRs though by introducing unpredictability in the game, an element of chaos. You'd think an RPG ruleset was designed to do exactly the opposite, but DCC introduces in every spell, every divine invocation and most combat rolls the potential for cataclysmic failure or unbelievable success. Usually in an unexpected or humorous way. The trade-off of course is dozens upon dozens of tables, one for each spell, each invocation, critical rolls, etc. I thought that would put me off, but they're actually quite fun to read (although I must confess to not having read all of them). So this one goes on the pile of games I want to test. It's growing fast...
