Mélancolies d'un soir by Tchavolo Schmitt Quartet

Mélancolies d'un soir by Tchavolo Schmitt Quartet

Tchavolo Schmitt is on the quiet side of gypsy jazz. Don't get me wrong, he's a super guitarist, but one that favors feeling over flamboyance, or at least doesn't pursue both in parallel. Mélancolies d'un soir, as a consequence, is a very pleasant record although not one perhaps that will stick in your ear all that much. In a genre as codified as gypsy jazz, that's hard enough as it is. Still, I listen to it with great pleasure, except the three tracks with a guest singer whose voice I find incredibly grating. Not an exceptional album, but a pleasant one for sure.
