It took eight movies for me to finally truly figure out the strange relationship I have with Star Wars. And it's simply this: through seven lackluster movies, Lucas and later Disney created a rich and compelling science-fantasy world full of powerful images and evocative mythology. Rogue One is finally a solid movie in that universe. It's not the greatest movie ever by a long stretch, but it's got a tight (if classic) scenario and it sticks to it. Everything about it is really good: the characters, the locations, the fights and explosions, the CGI, but in the end what glues all of it together into an effective package is a really good story, something that none of the previous movies had in my opinion. The inevitable yet un Star Wars like ending compounds all of that and creates a drama that has been sorely lacking in the Franchise (at least for over 13 yr olds). So without a shadow of a doubt in my mind the best Star Wars movie.
