Astro City #1: Life in the Big City by Kurt Busiek
Reading the Autumnlands made me want to revisit Astro-City. This first TPB is a collection of short stories that paint Astro-City one stroke at the time. Having read the story already I know many fleeting mentions will be important later, I understand how the traits of some of the characters we see will blossom down the line. The first story about the Samaritan (Astro-City's Superman) is probably one of my favorite of the entire series, focusing on these fleeting moments of pleasure he gets out of flying from crisis A to crisis B to save the world. Which sums up Astro-City nicely: this comic book doesn't so much revolutionize super hero comics (by being edgy, by being dark, or whatever) but looks at the stories we all know and (sometimes love) from another angle. Truly masterful, and it's great to already know that it only gets better.
