Birdman
We thought we'd more or less scoured the depths of weird but good movies on Netflix, but it turns out we hadn't. Birdman is the story of a washed out superhero movie star who tries to stage a broadway play which he wrote, produces and plays in. It's deeply personal to him, not to mention that the last remnants of his money are on the line. It's also a story about how broadway works, it's a story about fathers and daughters. There are unexplained weird aspects to the story, but they don't detract from the whole although I'm unsure how much they contribute either. Michael Keaton is very impressive in this, and casting Zach Galifianakis as the only sane character of the lot is a stroke of genius. Deep, disturbing and enjoyable.
