Evolution by Big Sam's Funky Nation
I heard about Big Sam by accident, I think I was trying to find out about a sideman from another band who ended up playing with him (can't even remember who). I listened to a few tracks online and decided to give it a shot. Sam clearly comes from the kind of mold that made Trombone Shorty, even if the rock element is stronger in his music. But it's this blend of New Orleans funk and rock, with undertones of jazzy influence. Evolution is a dynamic album and a fun listen. Live, these guys must be awesome...
