When Gravity Fails by George Alec Effinger

I don't have much of a Cyberpunk culture, but I've read my fair share of Noir and this novel reeks of Noir. Set in a non-descript arab city of the future in a world that has broken down into micro-states all over, the novel focuses on Marîd Audran, an unaugmented unofficial private eye who ends up investigating a series of gruesome murders in the Budayeen, a run-down and vice-ridden area of the city. As mentioned, I don't have much comparison points, but I found the novel atmospheric, the technology and its implications understandable and the whole very very good.
