I can't remember who recommended Uprooted, but in the end what got me to purchase it was that he cover art reminded me of the cover of Susanna Clarke's The Ladies of Grace Adieu. Anyway, I was gripped by Uprooted from the first page. I guess it could be described as Eastern European fantasy, but not in the over the top gory way that has made The Witcher famous. This is way more subtle, and way more horrific as a consequence when things turn horrific (as they must in Eastern European fantasies). Uprooted is a true fairy tale, delicately written, and it should appeal to those who like me love fairy tales. Highly recommended. As a roleplaying note aside, major inspiration for Symbaroum. And I mean major !
