Terra Mystica
I played a game of this last night at the local boardgame club. I really enjoyed it (even though I lost, 4th out of 5). There are elements of Settlers of Catan (it's a position game, terrain types matter, you upgrade your buildings as the game progresses) and elements of Small World (multiple species with different powers). Thankfully, while the rules seem daunting at first the mechanics are actually fairly simple and unlike Small World the races don't introduce hundreds of micro-systems. It's really well designed. I think I might not resist and actually buy it...
