The Encyclopedia of Early Earth by Isabel Greenberg
I read Greenberg's 'One Hundred Nights of Hero' earlier this year and it was probably (no, scrap that, it WAS) the best graphic novel I read all year. I got her earlier book 'The Encyclopedia of Early Earth' recently, and now it's my new favourite graphic novel of the year. Steeped in myth, modern, edgy, fun, it shares a world with the One Hundred Nights. It all starts with love at first sight, when the Man from the North after having traveled all the way to the South falls in love with the Woman of the South. If you like folk tales, or just great, humane stories, you will love this. There's a hint of Borges here that kicks it up to an even higher level. In other words, run and go buy it.
