Babylon's Ashes by James SA Corey
6th installment in the Expanse series of novels. As with nearly every volume (except the 5th if I recall) I feel at the beginning that the series is dragging on and if only they'd get on with actual story, and by the end I can't wait for the next one. This is in part due to the choral structure as new points of view are usually introduced at the beginning of a new tome, thus slowing the pace down. This tome is clearly not as ambitious as some of the previous ones (in terms of themes, especially SF themes) or as world shattering as the previous tome (but you'd be hard pressed to top that). Still, I find that the series as a whole deftly walks a fine line between entertainment and ideas. Hardcore SF fans might legitimately call this space opera, I suppose, but I like that there are big ideas nested in The Expanse, even if they aren't often at the forefront.
