Trudvang Chronicles Player's Handbook

Trudvang Chronicles Player's Handbook

Sometimes I kickstart games on a whim and wonder afterwards exactly why I did. In the case of Trudvang, I guess it was a combination of an aspiration to Nordic Fantasy and some very evocative art. Later in the corwdfunding process, when I saw the character sheets and early excerpts from the game I realised this would likely be a game whose system is anathema to how I play today (and possibly closer to how I played 30 years ago.) A quick first read of the Player's Handbook confirms both the positive and the negative: this IS Nordic Fantasy, and despite the presence of elves, dwarves and trolls it feels nothing like the classic fantasy of the Dungeonverse. The artwork is superb and wonderfully evocative of that nordicness. And the system is a catastrophy of bookkeeping such as I would never have imagined anyone would release in 2017. There must be shy of a hundred skills, with different levels and scales, heaps of spells which contradict the feel of the magic and divine interventions (as described in the setting) by emulating D&D like spells. In a nutshell, I absolutely want to play in this world, but certainly not with this system.
