This is a live album that feels like a studio album. It has good sides (the sound is gorgeous) and less good (it lacks a certain freedom and feels a bit constrained). Still, if I hadn't seen them live on the same repertoire last week, I would be full on for this album. The hidden gem here is a rolling instrumental cover of Little Walter's My Babe. But the rest if great stuff. Hemmer's B3 playing is very rich, full of layered harmony (he makes full use of the foot pedalboard to free up his left hand for voicings and subtle underpinnings). Gadd's playing could be described as delicately forceful, which gives this trio setup a unique sound. Blicher's sax is nice although at times it feels a tad lonely for some reason. Still, if you like jazz organ trios, you can get this eyes closed, it's really good stuff.
