Vintage New Acoustic by Reggie Washington

Vintage New Acoustic by Reggie Washington

I can't say that I knew Reggie Washington's music well. I saw him playing with David Lynch (yes, that David Lynch) 15 years ago for a super short and super dissapointing gig where Washington was the only musician standing out. When I saw his name on this record I purchased it. There's no doubt Washington is a stellar bassist and double bassist, but this album feels unfinished, which is its undoing. It alternates acoutic and electric pieces, with a lot of solo or overdubbed two basses stuff, but it lacks focus. The playing is good, but there's no direction and little coherence. It's a shame because there's clearly the premise of a great record here, it's just only partially there.
