The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang

The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang

What first attracted me to this graphic novel was the rounded graphic style, a little Ben Hatke and a little European. But the story is great too. It's a XIXth century fairy tale of sorts, about Frances the dressmaker who gets hired by Prince Sebastian to design and sew him outrageous outfits for a secret identity... which means she must stay secret as well and let go of her dreams of making it in the fashion business. It's a very modern tale on love and gender fluidity, nicely executed and moving. It's got a happy ending, so don't expected too much realism here, but it's a very pleasant and unusual read.
