The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North

The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North

My sister recommended this to me ages ago but I only recently read it and don't regret one second of it. It's hard to classify as Science Fiction or Urban Fantasy because it has neither of the markers of either genre. Essentially, Harry August lives through his life over and over again. Every time he dies, he is born again on the same date in the same circumstances. There are minor variations in each iteration, and he finds that he is not alone. A deeper mystery then emerges, one that Harry must investigate and work on across several lives. The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August is well written, in a terse, to the point kind of way, with short chapters that ease immersion. I read it in a couple of days despite having lots of things to do besides. While not easy to classify, the book oscillates between genre fiction (it is a kind of thriller after all) and more generic, meaningful literature. It never really decides which camp it's in, which is fine by me. I found the ending a tad lackluster, if logical. Still, a very nice surprise. Thanks, Sis!
