Mutant Year Zero

Mutant Year Zero

I played MY0 a few months ago in a mini-campaign run by Tom. It's a post-apocalyptic survival game where player characters are mutants in a barren urban environment full of dangers and potential technology to be rediscovered. I thoroughly enjoyed the game, but wanted to know how the sausage was made, as it were. I found that the book offers a really fantastic toolbox type of gaming proposition. There's a little upfront investment from the GM and players in setting up the Ark where they live (or barely survive, rather). From then on, everything is designed for the GM to create compelling gaming propositions more or less on the fly, and there's a dense but convicing metaplot deeply embedded in the game (although not so deeply that you couldn't replace it with another one). It's really an amazing thing that Fria Ligan have done there, and it's a shame that rather than carrying over the philosophy to Coriolis they carried over the system. The system works fine for MY0, not for Coriolis, and the gaming tools are excellent and useful here, and defective or absent in Coriolis. Will definitely run this at some point.
