Freedom Highway by Rhiannon Giddens
I never got into the Carolina Chocolate Drops, where Giddens comes from. Too country for me. But from the same soil, Giddens grows a more open and universal music which works better for me. It's still undoubtedly Americana, with a heavy dollop of country and spiced with a little bluegrass, blues and surprisingly New Orleans. A great discovery. Will need to check out her first solo album.
