Presque Minuit by Anthony Combrexelle
I was looking forward to reading Yno's first novel (he's a prolific and talented writer of roleplaying games), even if it was very explicitly a young adult novel. Set in a 19th century Steampunk / Magic Paris during the Exposition Universelle, it ends up being a lot more high fantasy than I expected, and as a consequence never really drew me in. The characters (especially the kids) are endearing, but my suspension of disbelief never kicked in.
