The Books of Magic by Gaiman, Bolton, Hampton, Vess and Johnson
I had fond memories of the Books of Magic but hadn't read it in over 20 years. It didn't live up to my memories. Fundamentally, it is a book where nothing happens. There is one twist, which you see coming from miles away (or eons away, I should say) and apart from that it's all exposition. That was the whole idea, a marketing kind of deal showcasing various occult aspects and characters of the DC universe. There's a lot of fun little things, but the lack of story makes it ultimately a very secondary book. Then again, Gaiman scripting something where the key characters just follow the path with little or no actual choices is not unfamiliar...
