Tous les Peuples by Gaël Horellou

Here's another record I bought on a whim, mostly on the basis of the cover and the line-up. It turns out to be a jazz meets maloya record, but in a very different approach to the fantastic Somminker that Danyel Waro and Olivier Ker Ourio released 20 years ago. Overall it's a good album, a good listen full of long transe like improvisations by Horellou on the tenor saxophone. But it's got its share of feats of rhythm and harmony chanting too. That's perhaps where I got a little dissapointed, many of the voices lacking a certain something to be truly convincing in my opinion. But then again I know very little about maloya.
