Sanseverino & Tangomotan
When I first discovered Sanseverino, I thought his thing was writing songs in the manouche jazz genre because that was the genre he knew and loved. Then he did the same with Western Swing, then with Blues and now with Tango. His thing, actually, is subverting a genre he loves by writing his wacky and off-kilter lyrics to it. This latest release with French tango band Tangomotan is maybe his most successful since his early trio of albums. The music is exhilerating and exciting, true to tango's roots but with Sanseverino's electric guitar spicing things up a little. The lyrics however are where this album shines the most. Not since Le Tango des Gens (which was not a tango album) did he make me laugh so much. Heartily recommended.
