Purchased this on a whim, just because you don't find oud players in the jazz section of a record store all that much. It's a bit more mixed genre than jazz, actually, but that's all for the best. There's clearly a rock energy and vibe, pumped up by the rhythm section and Aliwat's vigorous playing. But also a lot of romantic moods contributed by the two cellos intertwined (at times it's reminiscent of Renaud Garcia- Fons' bow playing...) The instrumentation is great, the material varied, easy to fall into but more subtle than it appears at first. And then it's over, and it leaves you wanting more... which is probably the best feeling to end on.
