The Little Sister by Raymond Chandler
It's been ages since I read a Marlowe novel, and when I needed a book and stumbled upon this one, I was very happy to plunge back. Of course, these novels work even better because of the tropes they have established but while I enjoyed reading the Little Sister I thought that Chandler was laying them out here perhaps a little too thick. Of course, no one is who he or she seems, to begin with Marlow's customer (a "dame", unsurprisingly). It's still a fun novel to read, with a very convoluted plot, but if I had to choose, The Long Goodbye or The Lady in the Lake seem like better picks to me (not to mention The Big Sleep, obviously).
