The Young and Prodigious T. S. Spivet

The Young and Prodigious T. S. Spivet

I'm a big fan of Jean-Pierre Jeunet, and while TS Spivet was not up there in my pantheon of his movies, I had fond memories of my first viewing. We watched it again with my wife and daughter over the weekend, and I found it enjoyable (again) but I guess it feels a bit too shallow at times, compared to some of Jeunet's other movies. As a consequence, the cinematic gimmicks that he loves to use feel a bit too contrived. Still, it's a delicate story of a kid genius dealing with his twin brother's tragic death, a road (or rather train) trip through America, and a moving story all folded into one. So really, not bad.

  1. I'm also a big fan of Jeunet but I mysteriously missed this one completely when it came out in theaters. I saw it a couple of years later on DVD and I have since forgotten almost everything about it now... :-(
