We had not seen this movie, not when it came out, and not when Pope Francis passed away. We watched it last weekend. There are many things I found mindblowing about Conclave. The premise and focus, to begin with: both the visuals and the unique situation of a papal conclave were new to me and both were depicted wonderfully. At heart, Conclave is a movie about politics, a movie that tells us that the Catholic church is eminently political. I absolutely loved 95% of the movie, but I was a bit frustrated by the ending. It felt a bit like a "short story with a twist" kind of ending, one which calls for some development to be believable. As it stands, the movie ends too fast and leaves that surprise twist hanging. Still, I enjoyed it very much and am very glad I saw it.
