This album is often presented as the first (or one of the first, there's debate) jazz fusion albums, and I can understand why although it did not sound anything like what I expected. For one thing, it bears its title well: it's a quite and meditative album, where I was expecting a much rockier affair considering this album led McLaughlin to the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Chick Corea to Return to Forever, Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter to Weather Report and Tony Williams to Lifetime. In a Silent Way is unmistakably electric, but as I said, it doesn't have the raw evergy that all of those early 70s fusion bands displayed. And yet it's very accessible and easy to enjoy. I'm still not 100% sure what I think of it, but I'm erring on the side of liking it.
