Alain Chabat, famous French comedian and actor has a smashing hit with Mission Cléopatre in 2003, his first adaptation of a seminal Asterix story. With Le Combat des Chefs, he is back, but this time the medium is animation, and the format is a mini-series of five 35mn episodes. As a French viewer familiar with Asterix, I was a little apprehensive, but I needn't have been. It's hilarious, action packed and just all round fantastic. There are a ton of easter eggs, nods to famous people or seminal moments of my youth, and probably a ton more that I missed. I don't know how Le Combat des Chefs is subtitled or dubbed in other languages, and I wish the translators good luck either way, but if you are francophone, this is a no brainer. Hilarious.
